Up for sale, a 1967 Gibson EB-2 vintage semi-hollowbody bass guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and a collection of photographs documenting the instrument's ownership over the decades. This custom color example feautures the original Sparkling Burgundy nitro laquer finish. Unlike Cherry, Sparkling Burgundy is opaque with a metallic undercoat, and this particular finish has aged stunningly with a more golden tint on the top and a very saturated red on the back. One of Gibson's most desirable and eye-catching vintage bass designs, the EB-2 has the classic Body shape and maple construction of Gibson's ES guitars, with a powerful, thick sounding "Mudbucker" mounted in the neck position.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a chunky and well-rounded C shaped profile, filling the palm and contributing greatly to the resonance and sustain of the instrument. The thick slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports pearloid dot inlay and the original flat and wide fretwire which has been recently leveled and crowned, currently showing no wear. The truss rod is responsive, the neck is straight, and the bass plays well in every register. The original nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the Gibson logo and "crown" are inlaid in pearloid, and the stock chrome tuning machines are intact and turn smoothly. The headstock does exhibit a small V-shaped repair only present on the bass-side of the headstock joint, extending from the E tuner post and terminating between the tuner baseplates. This fracture is stable and professionally addressed, and does not extend to the headstock face.
All of the electronics work as they should, with Volume and Tone knobs as well as a Varitone push button tone shift/boost switch that adds further versatility to the EB-2's sound. The electronics are untouched.
The original bridge is intact along with the stock mute. The intonation screw on the G string broke off a wing at the screw slot for adjusting the intonation, but the intonation can be adjusted without any problems. The pickguard and strap buttons are original, while the pair of reflector cap knobs are modern replacements.
Cosmetically, this bass is in fantastic shape, with a stunning 100% original nitro lacquer Sparkling Burgundy finish. Vertical lacquer checking is present across the entire body, crossed with tighter horizontal checking most prominent on the top. Only a couple stray nicks are present in the body finish, with finish chipping mostly relegated to the sides and back of the body, as well as a small concentration of light scratches and buckle rash on the back. there is a sliver of wear down to the bare maple adjacent to the Mudbucker, where a previous owner anchored his thumb. The neck is in great shape, with notable horizontal finish checking up the entire profile and palm wear through the finish along treble side edge of the neck.
The original hardshell case is included with original handle and latches intact!
